Theresa,
For two years, I suffered from excessive and unpredictable bleeding due to fibroids. When my doctor finally recommended a hysterectomy, I thought I would have the same experience as my friends: a few days in the hospital, pain, a lengthy recovery and trouble toning-up because of a cut across my abdominal muscles. Fortunately, this was not to be my experience because my doctor said, "I think you are a great candidate for an LSH." Since he does not do this procedure, he referred me to a colleague who does. When I went for the referral and learned about LSH, I knew it was right for me.
On the day of my LSH procedure, I went prepared with an overnight bag because I was told I might need to stay one night in the hospital. I had my LSH at 10:00 am and everything went so well that by 3:30 pm the doctor said I could go home. I couldn't believe it! Once home, I was really surprised that I wasn't in pain and my recovery was just me taking it easy. Four weeks after my LSH, I went on vacation and had a terrific time. It was so nice not to have to put my life on hold.
I had a great experience with LSH and most importantly, it has meant a return to a quality of life that I cherish. So, whenever I hear a woman talk about hysterectomy, I tell her to ask her doctor about LSH.
